Activation Error Message With Activated Windows 7 Professional
I have been running Windows 7 Professional for sometime now. All of a sudden I get the "Windows Activatioon" error message that "This pre-release version of Windows 7 Professional will expire in X hours". This may have started after an automatic upgrade to Win 7. What can I do to stop this message from comming up. I'm afaid that one day my computr will crash during work.Bill

That message is usually generated for pre-release versions of Windows such as an RC1 or RC2. There is no fix for this except to wipe the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 7. It would be an extremely rare, and highly unlikely, incident for an "automatic upgrade" to cause this. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. You can use WinVer to see which version of Windows you are running: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/which-version-of-the-windows-operating-system-am-i-running Did you mean automatic upgrade to SP1?

Hi, It is recommended that do a Windows 7 clean install. Do not apply any upgrade.... In my practical experience, more than 50% of Win7 upgrade is become failure. After doing the clean install it is working fine. AJ http://aloysiusjegan.in Aloysius Jegan

Hello Bill, I would check if you are running a beta version of the Service Pack. Run WinVer what does it report? also open an elevated CMD prompt and run slmgr /dlv and report back the output. Thanks, Darrell Gorter [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
