Activating Windows 7, using KMS, without a domain server or controlled DNS
Hi, I have the following problem, I have a KMS for my windows 7 instalations and I want to activate. The problem is that I don't have the need for a domain controller, and neither a DNS server since my gateway takes care of it. Will the KMS Host register on the gateway's DNS and the other machines access it from there or do I have to implement a fully controlled domain for this effect? I just need local accounts and Internet access on the computers, and maintaing a domain controller will cause dependency problems that my network, and users, don't need. Thanks for your attention. Cheers Paulo Marques

Hello Paulo,You can point the KMS clients to the KMS host machine by opening an Elevated CMD prompt:and running slmgr /skms to point directly to the KMS host. You do not need a Domain controller.Volume Licensing: Key Management Service (KMS) Client Options: /skms <Name[:Port] | : port> [Activation ID] [Activation ID] Set the name and/or the port for the KMS computer this machine will use. IPv6 address must be specified in the format [hostname]:port /ckms [Activation ID] Thanks, Darrell Gorter This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights

Hi As prescribed, the method above does work for Windows 7 clients. How do we go about getting it to work for Microsoft office 2010 clients via kms activation. Office 2010 within our organisation, refuses to activate, unless the client pc is a member of our Active Directory domain. We have tried using the different options with the OSPP.VBS script, but to no avail. It simply refuses to activate the client copies of Office 2010, unless the client workstations are added to our Active Directory domain.
