Some malware can interfere with Windows Update (as an effort to protect itself from the Microsoft Malware Removal Tool). Do you have a good antivirus program? If not, allow me to suggest Microsoft Security Essentials, available from: • http://microsoft.com/security_essentials If this was helpful, please vote by clicking the green triangle. If it solves the issue, click Propose as Answer. Thanks!

Symantic EndPoint Protection, just starting a full scan, I'll see if it throws up anything. Thanks

Well Symantic full scan didn't find anything, trying essentials now, not hopeful that will find anything, I'll try Hijack this after that, but me thinks, that there is some sort of inherited permisions problem.

Hi BrendanDoyle, Please check if the following settings can resolve this issue: 1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Large icons -> Action Center. 2. Click "Change Action Center settings". 3. Uncheck "Windows Update" and then click OK. If the issue persists, you can refer to this thread for the Action Center registry key values: How can I turn off messages for certain Action Center items Also, you can access Clean Boot to check the issue. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue. Regards, Linda

Yeah, but that just turns off the warning right? masks the issue? Funny think is when I went to action center to do this, even though it is warning me that I haven't configure windows Up date, it also has a warning that windows downloads has download updates and that they will be installed at 3AM. So it's almost like a phantom warning, it's warning that windows updates are not configured, but yet it still seems to be getting them??

Hi BrendanDoyle, Does the issue occur in Clean Boot? If the issue persists, you can try the following suggestions to see if the issue occurs: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Fix problems with Windows Update. Follow the wizard and see if the issue can be resolved.
