Two things spring to mind:1. The file has been infected with spyware - if that's the case use programs like Spybot & ad-aware to clean your system. The other thing is:2. The file has been replaced by a 3rd party product, do the following things: a. run the System File Checker tool (At the command prompt type and run: sfc /scannow) and if that doesn't work b. do a system restore to before the error happened-Ken | http://ken.wagnerfamily.co.uk

Hi Kit.... When I was being hacked, the ability to (backup) my sys was the 1st thing disabled.... However, with that my sys. restore was likewise taken out, but I still can do a sys. restore... I do have Lavasoft Ad-ware working along with Kaspersky 2010, which indicate that nothings infecting my sys.... I feel you 2nd answer is the correct one... I may just post on the Nero site in addition to a uninstall of the 3rd party (backup) software as a control test.... thanks for the comeback Kit... xrams....

Great... thanks I really like how this site comes back with input so quickly... I'm also registered at another site which unlike this one allows attachments.. I can be articulate however, a pic obviously looses nothing in translation... if anyone is interested in the pics I hope the proprietors of this site don't mind this link to another windows 7 support address.....: http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/16703-action-center-flag-backup-issue.html @Thomas.... I will try the clean boot mode... after three days I have not had a response on the Nero site... I guess there not a high traffic URL.... When I run the Nero backup I get all these file with sequential numbers and I'm not really sure how to execute a restore???? I feel that this part of Nero 9 my not have been worth adding on.... xrams

Hi xrams,First of all, the status of the backup indicated in the Action center is the status of the backup program built into the Windows 7 operating system. From the screenshots, looks like your backup failed andnow, yourbackup application iscrashing. Do you remember how you set up your backupusing Win7 backup in the first place?Did you ever run successful backups? Can you zip and pass on the contents of <<SystemDrive>>\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup to us so that we can investigate? My email id is sneham_at_microsoft_dot_com (remove underscores and replace words with characters). Thanks,Sneha[MSFT]Windows 7Backup
