Accessing to FIM Portal - Unable to process your request

Hi

I am facing an issue where users can't access to the FIM Portal. It doesn't matter are you a normal user or admin. The error message is allways the same, "Unable to process your request".

Also I have managed to get a Detailed error message from the portal but it does point me to nowhere. It is below:

Any ideas what to do next?

1. Is FIM service running.  Can you do an import or export in FIM MA, to test the FIM Service is up.

2. Did you by any change delete Admin or build-in accounts in portal?

Is this a fresh installation of FIM Service and Portal or are you getting this error after doing any customizations?

No, this is not a fresh installation. Also we have not done any customizations when this occures.

Could this be someway related to Kerberos authentication maybe?

Have you checked this one at http://dloder.blogspot.fi/2011/12/administrator-locked-out-of-fim-portal.html?

No I have not. Anyway the error message is not exactly the same. My error message is missing "additional information" part.

Also the problem existed again for a couple of minutes and then disappeared. Only thing which I found is "Cannot find site lookup info for request Uri http://iam.domain.com/IdentityManagement/default.aspx" from the sharepoint server log file.

Next step is to use tracert and nslookup for portal address when the problem occures again.

After that I disable Kerberos authentication.

Update:

I have created a MS support ticket for this.

I managed to get this kind or error message using tracing:

The address of the security token issuer is not specified. An explicit issuer address must be specified in the binding for targe 'http://fim.site.net:5725/ResourceManagementService/Enumeration' or the local issuer address must be configured in the credentials.

What could cause this kind or error?

Some update.

We can temporarily fix the issue.

If we log in the portal server and run InternetExplorer using "run as different user" mode with our test account and then access to the portal, it fixes the problem for all the users.

Also if a user who gets the error message using IE logs in the portal using Firefox fixs the problem.

Any idea what is wrong? So the portal is unreachable for all the users before using workarounds.

Workarounds found this far:

  • User logs in to the portal using Firefox from any machine
  • Using IE with "run as different user" mode with test account from the portal server

The fact that it works in another browser, tells me this is a browser issue, not FIM.

What is the version of IE?   There are some known issues with IE 11.

I have an application that behaves similarily and the workaround, not a solution, is to clear temporary internet files "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files"
