Accessing network
I have a USB Network storage hard drive ( networked thru my Cat 5) that is accessible by all my XP pc's. The domain is workgroup and the NAS works just like it should My Problem I have two pc's running 7-RC1and also another PC running vista home pro none of the non xp machines will connect to the NAS I try to log in, it asks me the user name and password window as it should. I enter the info then get an error that the domain is not recognized. As I look further, I see that the domain it is trying to log in with is workgroup/username for some reason, when I input the user name to log in, it adds it to the domain name with a slash Any ideas? It is strange that it does this on the Vista and two different 7 RC machines Thanks for any input Daz

Firstly, please feel free let me know what type or mode of device you use of NAS. And then, please follow the below steps to use the correct user name and password to access the computer again: 1, Please check the name of the USB Network storage hard drive. If the USB Network storage connect to one computer, please check the name of the computer 2, Please type the name\username. Please note that the name is the USB Network storage hard drive name on the network or the name of the computer, which the USB Network Storage connect to The username is the computer log on name, which can access the USB Network storage on the network Please check the name\username on Windows XP, please check the name\username is correct and the same as the information on Windows XP when accessing the USB Network storage. If you still cannot access the USB Network storage, please provide the detail error message for me. We can research it for you. If possible, please post the screenshot on the forum.

I am using an Addonics NAS adaptor that adapts my external Iomega Tera bite USB drive to my Cat 5 network router. The name of the USB device is STORAGE-12f6 (192.168.30.10) To get to this drive, I must go to "run" and type in the above IP address. A window will come up asking for my password and then lets me in from any XP machine. When on Win 7 or Vista, it gives me the log in screen just like in XP but when I enter my user name and password, a new window pops up and says log in failure it gives a reason of workgroup/name is not valid. The name is the user name I type into the login box. That name somehow is added to the domain and seen as a part of the workgroup domain I tried to paste a screenshot but was not able Hope this info helps Daz

Can you see STORAGE-12f6 in (My) Network ?Here's a guess. Sorry if it's way off base. Check the settings in this dialog:Network & Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections > Properties (of W/Lan) > IPV4 Properties > Advanced > DNS > Append primary and conection specific DNS suffixesThere are a few other related things there too.

Hi Daz, Firstly, please check the format of the workgroup/name, the correct one is 192.168.30.10\name. Please type the correct format to check this issue again. According to the Addonics USB NAS adapter instruction, they used the admin as the username and admin as the password. You can follow the Addonics USB NAS adapter user instruction book to log on the USB device to log on it. Here, please check the username is the same as the one which access the USB external driver from Windows XP. Since you can log on from Windows XP, I think the username which you used on Windows XP is the correct one. Please make sure the username which you used from Windows 7 or Vista is the same one as the Windows XP. Also, we can check this link to follow theinstructions to try to log on the USB device:How to log on Addonics USB NAS adapter Hope the correct format can log on the USB external driver.
