Accessing System Properties through Computer Management console
Hi Everyone,Traditionally, in XP, when I want to check the path variable on a machine on our network here, I'd use Active Directory to pull up Computer Management on the machine. Then in the computer management msc, I'd click on Action in the menu bar and select Properties. This would pull up a scaled down version of the System Properties for that machine. From there, I could access the Environment Variables (as well as a lot of other info). I noticed in Vista that Properties was no longer an option in Computer Management (or at least at the top level) and this behavior has carried on over to 7.Does anyone know if there is a way to do this still in Windows 7 that I just don't seem to be able to find? Whenever I try to google it, it pulls up unrelated info since the search teams are kind of all over the place.I know that I can always connect to the remote machine with Regedit and find the path that way, but it takes longer and I'm a little lazy. Thanks

The System Information program (msinfo32.exe) that comes with Windows 7 (Ultimate at least, which is what I'm running), there is a menu item View >Remote Computer..., which will go fetch remote computer information.Edit: I just tried, and the msinfo32 in XP can access the information from a Windows 7 system in the same way.The remote system's environment variables are visible under the Software Environment >Environment Variables section. The remote system must have the Windows Management Instrumentation enabled, and the firewall must be set to let you in of course.Hope this helps.-Noel

That is great and exactly what I asked for. I appreciate the response. Sadly you can't edit though. By any amazing chance do you have a way to edit Environmental Variable without using the Registry or should I just suck it up and be thankful?

Sorry, I don't have a way to remotely edit the environment variables in hand, save for logging in via RDP and doing it that way. I typically set up RDP on all my systems so I can log in remotely as needed.-Noel

Thanks Noel. I generally do it through the registry so I don't have to bother the user, but it was just much cleaner and faster with the Computer Management properties. I appreciate you taking the time.

I want these variables, some of them are known to me, but I want to know all (each and every of them). Please tell me if know them or provide any link to any Technet/MSDN article about this.
