Accessing Novell Servers using CIFS mode
I can see the Novell Servers (server-w) but when I try and login it fails. I found this TID on Novell's web site and followed it but still no luck. (if the link does not work just type in vista in the knowlege base and you will find it)

can Anyone else access files this way on a Novell server?
I can access them this way on XP Pro machines without the novell client. But no luck with Vista so far.
I think I'm missing something simple??
Thanks

Hi,
Ok, It does work. I was missing something simple...
Found this on the Novell Fourms.... Same as the Novell TID above but with how to change Security Settings on the Vista PC.
I'm going to test the rest of Novell stuff including GW7.0 to see if that works. Also Zen 6.5. I'll try and keep you posted to what I find if there is interest.
On the NetWare side, you need 6.5 SP5 and the post sp5 updates
including n65nss5a.exe.
But that won't get it all done -- on the Windows side you need to step
down the default network security setting.
In Vista 64, I got there via:
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Local Security Polity
Lan Manager Authorization Level
For Vista (64 and I suspect 32 as well), and from what I understand
Windows XP64, the default setting is:
Send NTLMv2 only -- that locks you out of CIFS, instead, set this to
Send LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 if negotiated

We've been able to access our shares on Netware Servers, but are running into intermittent performance issues, where 1st access of share seems ok, but drilling down one or two levels may encounter a 30-90 delay as 'MyComputer' negotiates with the server. Once in, performance may resume to an acceptable level, but either on 'retreat' to outer directories, or 'after a piece' where the user does other things, the performance hit returns.Proposed solution from MS: Install Novell Client for Vista - not an option in our new environment where some users do not have Novell eDir accountsPossible source of problem: SMBv2 on Vista client not failing over to SMBv1 protocol that NW server uses...Any thoughts?Much appreciated!

Unfortunately I have the same problems with accessing the Netware CIFS shares, slow and a lot of explorer timeouts and sometimes explorer crashes. The bad news is that so far SP2 beta doesn't help and I tested both Windows 7 beta build 7000 and 7048 and they have the same issue.I tweaked Vista further with help from the below articles and it did help as its quicker now but still unstable.Even with the tweaks vista is trying to get special file flags, info or whatever instead of just copying/reading so I always use FTP which is at least twice as fast as Vista/Windows7 ____ explorer.I cannot understand why explorer is still one of the least stable pieces of Windows I had problems with it from Window 95 to Windows 7 and it got a little better since win2000 but with vista its even worse then 95, way to go MS!!!The articles I used to get better performance:http://www.neillans.co.uk/?p=165http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/11/08/disable-automatic-folder-type-discovery-for-templates-in-vista/http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9063060
