Access remote computer c$ with local admin account
All my windows 7 computers are UAC enabled. Since the default local "administrator" will be in disabled state, I created a new local admin account(.\myadmin) in all windows 7 computers. The problem here is, if I try to access the remote computer c$ share from one windows 7 computer to another with ".\myadmin" login, it is prompting the credentials. I tried entering them to vain. That means, I am unable to access the remote computers c$ share with local admin account remotely though similar works perfectly fine in windows XP. Another thing is, I am able to access remote computers c$ with domain admin account without any issues. Let me know if any one experienced similar issue and the possible solution if you are aware of any. Thanks, Sitaram http://techibee.com http://sitaram-pamarthi.com

Make sure File and Printer sharing is turned on on all the machines and the network type is set to Work. Make sure all the Admin accounts you created have a password associated with them. Instead of entering ".\myadmin" for the user name try "remotecomputer\myadmin" where remotecomputer is the name of the remote machine.

Thanks Bob for your reply. I tried these things before but no luck. "File and Printer Sharing" is ON without which my domain administrator can not access the c$ shares of remote PCs. Thanks, Sitaram http://techibee.com http://sitaram-pamarthi.com

Sorry, I didn't notice the "domain" part before. I get the same thing here. On a workgroup it works just fine, on the domain only a Domain Admin works.

Try this registry change. http://www.jimmah.com/vista/content.aspx?id=6 As always before editing the registry create a System Restore point or better yet a full backup of your computer. Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Thank you!! It solved my problem. I did a bit more research and collected few more details. It's happening because of UAC where it will not allow elevation of rights remotely. It's a security measure. I blogged about this to spread this information. http://techibee.com/windows-7/unable-to-access-administrative-sharesc-on-remote-computers-using-local-administrator-account-fixed/623 Thanks again, SitaramThanks, Sitaram http://techibee.com http://sitaram-pamarthi.com
