Access is denied to every file to be synched
I try to synch some files using Sync Center between two Windows 7 systems in a workgroup environment. I have all access through the network. However when I synch I get Access is denied to every file. The same problem happens when I try to synch a folder in an external drive attached to the host or that in the local drive of the host. I have not mapped the drive. I read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/275461 but it is still not clear after reading the Message 2 and the CAUSE. I just presume if I can access through the network, then synchronization should not be a problem.

The folder that you are accessing over the network is a share? Check the NTFS and Share permissions on the folder. "Everyone" probably will need at least modify access.

It is a share, otherwise it won't be allowed to access across the local workgroup network. I do allow Full Control too on Permissions when share was set up, as I have said I have full control across the network from the Windows Explorer. Today I have even ensured that the Everyone in Security has Full control Allowed. But the problems still remain. I have also just tried another Windows 7 and even logged on both with the same user name and password, but the problems remain. Now I wonder if Sync Center actually works in a peer-to-peer network environment.

If you are in workgroup and do not want to access shares with a specified username/password, you may have disabled Password Protected Sharing. In this case, you need to add the Guest account into the permission list of the shared folder. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. If you are in workgroup and do not want to access shares with a specified username/password, you may have disabled Password Protected Sharing. In this case, you need to add the Guest account into the permission list of the shared folder. The computers are in a workgroup. I do want to access shares on another computer across the network and I can do it. There is no problem accessing the shares on another computer across the network. However accessing the same using the Windows 7 Sync Centre get "Access is denied" to every file. I have password protected sharing turned on. I am not quite sure what you meant by "you may have disabled Password Protected Sharing." So do I still need to add the Guest account into the permission list of the shared folders? Since I can access them across the network as they are now I wouldn't expect I need to add the Guest account to the permission list which I prefer not if I can help.
