Access is denied.
Any help is appreciated. Here's what happened: i went to get my computer updated to windows 7 (bad idea on my behalf), and got it back a few days ago. I tried to listen to some music through the headphone jack at the front of the computer, nope, doesn't work. I try to access the hard drive error checking, nope, access denied, do not meet requirements. I've looked over the internet for similar problems, and from what I've seen, seem to all be with Windows 7. I tried the command prompt "net user administrator /active:yes" and ".. /active:no" numerous times for no outcome. The error that comes up says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". Pretty much everything I try and do is either "access is denied" or "you do not have sufficient privelages". I've also tried editing the Local Groups and Users to no avail, and have also tried UAC control settings, again, to no avail. Thanks in advance -shaun

Also, downloading is near impossible and system restore also has a "you do not have sufficient privelages" error.

It doesn't say much about the account. I accessed the lusrmgr (users and groups) and it has "Administrators" and "Guest" but nothing that gives any hint or evidence of my profile and what type it is. In the User Accounts it has "Change profile picture", "Change UAC Settings" (which doesn't work, due to denied access) and "Manage User Accounts" which when clicked has one listed profile named "Administrator". This is as clear a description as I could give due to the lack of a print screen button (will get it fixed soon).

It sounds as if you are working in a temporary profile with limited access, due to corruption of your admin account. You will need to boot to the Recovery Environment, and see if you can create a new Admin User from there, and then transfer the data from the old account to the new one. Ok, i have a new problem altogether. The computer they gave me (the school gave me, the one that's been having all the problems) now has no C:/ Drive :) In the Control Panel.. there is nothing under User Acccounts or anything for UAC control settings, regedit cannot be accessed due to group policy and the built in control (msc, mcc, mss? something like that) cannot be accessed. Nothing can be installed, downloading seems fine. Nothing on my desktop and all its parts can be deleted, and i can't access any other domains even if i have the passwords to the Administrators (which unfortunately i don't). I tried on the Guest profile to no good outcome (MCR-CNU1032LCQ\Guest..) (Prohibited access). Anything will do, except a clean reinstall. I also saw a program in the 'Add or Remove Programs' feature called 'DyKnow'; could be something of value, most likely not though.

You appear to be running in a Guest account - which is heavily locked down. You will have to contact the System Admin for assistance, as there's nothing that we can do without Admin credentials. It would have helped if you'd mentioned previously that this was a Domain-based machine (and by the sound of it, a thin client!), rather than a personal one :) Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

I sent it in to get fixed, and waited a full 2 weeks for them to fix it. The only thing they fixed was... oh right, they didn't fix anything. Even the stupid orange mute button that is never off mute (or so it seems) isn't fixed. I'll just have to throw it off the balcony :D Thanks for your help anyway.

1) to whom did you send the machine for repair? 2) what didn't they fix? 3) please post another MGADiag report - we may be able to assist.Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

I sent it in to my schools computer Tech guy. Through a few people I know, I've come about 'brute-forcing' (in which a computer tries every possible key or password until it succeeds). Would it be possible to brute-force the password of the domain that's blocking me and change from within that? Or is it just a 3-attempt lockout system / can't be changed in the domain?

Since discussion of password cracking is banned on these forums, I can't answer you. Since you appear to be attempting something which is questionable in its legality, I won't answer you on that. Your system appears to be running in teh Administrator account, and with no normal user profiles of either Admin or Standard levels. It is consequently in a VERY insecure state. I would recommend a reformat/reinstall,this time setting up proper user accounts. Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
