Access denied when trying to connect (wirelessly, if it matters) to a wired printer attached to an XP media ctr edition machine.
The RC is on my Laptop and my printer is attached to the desktop running XP Media Center 2005. I can share files and and remote in without issue. I can only print to the printer if i remote in and use the desktops resources, but i can not print from my laptop even though i can see the desktop attached printer.

Are the firewall settings for exceptions set to allow file and printer sharing on the XP machine?

Have you tried coying different driver versions such as Windows Vista and Windows 7 RC, if available, to the drivers folder on your Windows XP desktop?IF the printer software wasn't directly installed on the Windows 7 machine then it is going to look to the driver folder on the machine hosting it. Also is your network a workgroup/homegroup or domain?

No, but I will. Would not having the driver (Vista, RC etc) installed on the XP machine result in a UAC denial? Does LLTP (??)have to b on both machines??

Shame I can't close those dialogue boxes to see what's going on???? ;)The path I chose for me worked. On the beta I was able to connect all with the printer connected to a Win7 machine, but after the RC was release I had problems, at the time (& still now)I had 4 x Xp (3 D/T & 1 L/T) 2 x Win7 (1 D/T 1 L/T) all connected wirlessly without a print server, which is fine as long as you have the computer with the printer connected turned on, (gee's it annoys the kids ;p but saves on ink & paper)1: Start, Printers & Devices (Win7 comp)2:Click 'Add Printer'3: Click 'Add Network, Wireless or Bluetooth printer'4: If Not found easily click 'stop!' Click 'the Printer I want is not listed' Click 'Next!'5: Click 'Select a sharedPrinter by name'6: enter the path (taking a wild stab here) \\mikeandsue\the friggin epson (but maybe use "epson model#" also take note of the space/s eg: In my case \\JULT-PC\Brother DCP-135C)Regards Faganas I said would like to see behind those dialogue boxes, when you look in windows explorer, under network do you see the media centre? if not then you have a connection problem!

June 20th, 2009 11:31pm

sorry 4 taking so long 2 reply. I asked and I asked. I wrote question after question about this silly little problem. hahhahha lol I'd really like 2 thank everyone that offered any input as all were very good responses, but nothing ever worked and i just couldnt figure it out. When in the end it was only 2 b a glitch in the Release copy that I had, becuz after installing a Full version of 7 pro it connects to the printer just fine. Go figure......
