Access denied when trying to access shared folder across a workgroup after changing the user's password on both XP machines.
Hey everyone, I have a file server and 8 machines in a workgroup. Everything is running XP Pro. I have successfully set up file and print sharing and everything began to work as it should. I created a user(let's call him Frank for right now) and blank password on the server so I could add a personal folder that he only had access to. I then went to the client machine and created the same user. Without thinking I created a password for Frank and when I tried to access the server, I was prompted for a username and password. Once I realized what I did, I put in username and BLANK password and I was allowed access to the server. Once everything worked properly , I changed the password for Frank on the server and on the client machine to the same thing and now I receive the message "<Computer name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions....Access Denied." It seems that even though I changed the password on the server and the workstation, the server still retains the blank password. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or if there is a way to clear the "cached" passwords on the server?1 person needs an answerI do too
