Access denied to printer in Windows 7
I have a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system on a domain that gives me an 'unable to connect' error in the print queue every time I try to print. I started getting them with a network printer, so I installed a generic text only printer and got the same error when
trying to save the output file. This happens with a standard user account and with the administrator account. Don't know if this is related, but we just had to replace the network switch, as the ports started to fail. This system couldn't reach any of the
network printers, as it was on a failing port.
I get the follow print service error every time:

1. Check if the switch is configured properly, namely if it is manageable switch.
2. If you can test your computer on another "healthy" switch, do it and test if the computer work properly. This will split troubleshooting into two independent tasks.
3. You can catch the network communication by network monitor (either NM from Microsoft or free Wireshark) and see what happens. Also any traces and attempts to communicate on the server side would give relevant information for your trobleshooting.

Hi,
You can also try to reinstall network printer for test. Also temporary disable firewall and restart Printer Spooler service to see if the same issue occurs.

The switch is an unmanaged Netgear GS116. I turned off the firewall and restarted the printer spool service several times with out any luck. I thought it might be a network issue, that's why I installed a generic text only printer. But when that printer
also failed, it kind of ruled out any network issue. This issue seems to have something to do with the printing permissions on the local system.

I brought the system back to my location and had a few issues with it.
1. Ran Belarc Advisor and the report did not show any users being installed. I had added them from the AD, so they should have shown up.
2. Could not get the display driver to work with my standard shop monitor. A 1024 x 768 resolution would not work no matter what the refresh rate was.
3. This system was an emergency purchase when one of the workstations failed. It was drop shipped overnight from Dell and came preloaded (enough said).
I decided to just reformat and do a clean installation of Windows 7 Professional and all of the applications. Made all of the disks including a separate Windows 7 Pro disk (I'm surprised). Did a DOD wipe of the drive and reinstalled. It's now working fine and
printing to all of the printers.
Thanks again for all of the assistance,
Scott
