Access denied if try to use bitlocker for removable device

Hello
If i want to use bitlocker for removable device i get the error Access denied (in first dialogue)
Bitlocker encryption of local and System drive works fine. TPM also ready. Have tested it in Domain and Workgroup only. Same result. I am signed in als Administrator.
Have checked some USB stick's but same result. USB is formated FAT32.

Does anybody have a idea why i get an "Access denied"?

Thanks Othmar

Hi,

According to your description, please let me know if some error code appear when this issue occurred.

Also, lets temporarily disable Windows firewall and security software to check if that helps.

If it doesnt work, please use manage-bde command to check status of removable drive.

1. Press Win+x, open elevated command prompt

2. Run below command:

manage-bde -status X(removable drive letter)

manage-bde: on X(removable drive letter)

For more information about the command, please refer to:

Manage-bde

If the issue persists, I suggest you check the following  GPO setting  to check the result.

I would like to share the following article with you:

It seems that these also apply to windows 8.

Hi,

Have now found the reason. Bitlocker want to copy a "autorun.inf" file to copy the usb storage. The virus scan is blocking this file because we have blocked all autorun.inf files on removable storages. I have changed virus scanner settings and now it's ok.
The reason was to trace the behavior with Sysinternals filemon. :-)
