Access Denied to files on network share with offline files enabled, Windows 7 SP1
Following updates to SP1 for Windows 7, we began seeing odd behavior in accessing files. All users have their desktop and documents folders redirected to a network file share with Offline Files enabled. Following the application of SP1, we began seeing users have "Access Denied" errors after editing files and saving them. First time they opened the file, no issue. However, after saving, they could not open the file again. Permissions on the server have not changed. The server is running Windows Server 2003. After troubleshooting, we found that this only occured on shares where files were synchronized with Offline Files. Files on other shares on the same server could be accessed and edited without issue. Disabling Offline Files does correct the issue. Once disabled, users are able to edit files they previously got "Access Denied" on. However, re-enable Offline Files and the problem returns. While we can disable Offline Files for some users, we need to be able to have it enabled for all of our laptop users. Any help would be much appreciated.

Please see if the follow article can help on this. Users may receive an "Access is denied" error message if you make files and folders available for offline use http://support.microsoft.com/kb/275461 Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Garibaldi, Did you ever find the solution to this issue? We are experiencing it as well. Thank You, Aaron

--- ditto as Mr. Clark --- I do not believe a solution for W2K would apply here. I've done what was mentioned in the MS support as linked above, to no avail. Scenario: Windows 2003 & 2008 servers Users all on new Win7 workstations Select users on even newer Win7 netbook & laptops ALL machines are 32-bit (even servers) All this on a domain User permissions & securities are applied via Active Directory on the 2003 servers (2008 servers are for apps only) Sample Directory on a shared server: \root --Dept 1 ----Spvsr1 ----Emp1 ----Emp2 ----Emp3 --Dept 2 ----Spvsr2 ----Emp4 ----Emp5 --Dept 3 ----Spvsr3 ----Emp6 ----Emp7 ----Emp8 ----Emp9 ----Emp10 --All Share --Executives Only Security Setup Executives have all access pass Supervisors have access to their departments, all sub folders of their departments, and the All Share Employees have access to their department's root folders, their assigned folder, and the All Share Instances of Issue (all repeatable) -Executive users map entire drive for Offline Use, alters a couple of files --Sync attempt fails ----Access Denied error for both offline & server files to this user ----Access Denied error for all users BUT the original author (no matter the privilege), and the file is synched? --Sync attempt succeeds ----Sometimes Access Denied for executive user, but all other users can access the OLD version?! New version not found. ----When the executive user can access the file, it is the OLD version of the file and not what was supposedly synched. -Supervisor maps only his/her Department Dir with Offline use, NEVER HAS ANY ISSUES. -Employees sync (no offline access) to their user folders - never any issues UNLESS Supervisor or Executive users alter their files, then ALL receive Access Denied errors. Our IT staff is boggled.... assistance and/or pointing to a relevant tech-sheet would be most appreciated.
