Access Denied on DFS target folder
Hi, Currently, I have a user that gets an access denied on a folder while access it through DFS. If I link the folder directly to the server (\\servername\Folder) it works fine. The error message only shows when going through \\namespace.com\Folder. Server is running Server 2008 64-bit and client is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit After researching this issue the folder that is getting the error message is also cached in the users offline files. I have tried to re-initalize the offline cache by running the following command from an evaluated command prompt (reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Csc\Parameters /v FormatDatabase /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f). But this blue screens the computer and to fix this I have to press F8 to boot to the last good configuration. I can not manually delete the folder from the offline cache. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? Thank you.

Hi, You may perform the following steps to initialize the cache of offline files. 1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. 2. Locate the following registry subkey, and then right-click it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC 3. Point to New, and then click Key. 4. Type Parameters in the box. 5. Right-click Parameters, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit)Value. 6. Type FormatDatabase, and then press ENTER. 7. Right-click FormatDatabase, and then click Modify. 8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK. 9. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. Note Make sure that files are synchronized before you add this registry entry. Otherwise, unsynchronized changes will be lost. Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

Sorry I have no experience using a DFS, so what I may suggest may not be the solution... To use DFS (just by looking it up to see what it is) you have to use some sort of client and server software, correct? If so, check for latest updates... I found a similiar thread with same BlueScreen Error, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/usbrs232-bridge-gives-blue-screen/318686b2-12c7-4291-9620-9b33045f6a42 and updating the drivers associated with the device fixed the issue. I may be completely wrong about the client server software, so if I am, I'm sorry. Another way to try fixing your problem of trying to delete a folder is boot it in Safe Mode (type msconfig in a command prompt, go to boot tab, and select Safe Boot). Again if you try to do that, make sure the correct user trying to delete the folder has all NTSF and networking permissions.

To delete the cache, I think you have to first of all be the correct user with full permissions to the folder. Have you given all NTFS AND network permissions to the specified user and/or have you tried removing the cache as the OWNER of the folder, or transferred ownership to the user having issues to remove the cache? I don't know why there would be a blue screen, is there an error given?

I have tried to give Owner ship to the user on (C:\Windows\CSC\v2.0.6\namespace) to delete the folder from cache. I fixed this issue by booting to a linux live cd. Then deleting the folder that was causing the issue out of the CSC folder. Now the user can access the DFS folder without any issues.
