Abit IN9 32X-MAX SLI and windows 7 turns off my nvidia ethernet.
My board is an Abit IN9 32X-MAX SLI and windows 7 turns off my ethernet.I have to completely power off from the mains to enable the ethernet... on next reboot there gone again as if they where not present on the mobo. This is the only reason why I do not have Win 7 Installed as it's a right pain going under my desk to turn off the power on every reboot or power up.I have no problems with any OS appart from Windows 7, I have tried various builds but all disable my ethernet until the pc is actually unplugged from the mains as a reboot does not re-enable them for Xp ot Vista. It's as if Windows 7 disables my ethernet at the bios lvl and only a complete unplug from the mains gets them back, a reboot or reset button does not re-enable them.thanks and hoping you fix this problem asap so I can continue my beta trail of windows 7.on a side note, if you google this problem it does seemI am not alone in this probelm.

Sardine - First off, the only build that is officially (or otherwise) supported here until the RC release is build 7000... That said, it may have to do with a driver issue. I've seen something like this once on an older motherboard. I was testing Linux Live CD just for the sake of grins and giggles. After getting bored with playing around with it, I noticed when the box rebooted into XP, there was no network connectivity - only a full power down with an unplugging would fix the problem. Anyhow.. I digress...The first thing I would do is make sure you've got the latest BIOS update. Secondly, I would check to make sure you've got the latest drivers for the board's chipset installed. Check the manufacturer's site as well as Nvidia's. You may also want to try uninstalling the hardware and reinstalling it.

1:- I have the Latest Bios installed but........Abitwent bankrupt so no support if u need new bios..2:-tried all different drivers.3:- unable to uninstall the drivers if the hardware does not exist in Device manager.Windows 7 disables my ethernet at BIOS lvl. I.E. as if there was NO ethernet on my comp.I believe I can fix this by installing a cheap PCI ethernet card, but as I am running Sli and have SBX-Fi installed I would have to loose the soundcard in favour of network. No thanks, I'll stick with Vista until the problem is either solved or I upgrade my motherboard sometime soon. Why Microsoft can't fix a simple issue like this is beyond me as it's ALL 680i mobo's from abit doing this..Pffft!

Ah yes... Abit.. Yes, that would be problematic... Bummer...In the meanwhile... There seems to be someone who found a fix, however, for your issue that can be found here. It can be found in post #41 at the end of the post. It would seem you would need to force Windows 7 to use the latest Vista drivers build 67.8.9 for the NIC.

I have almost exactly the same motherboard (IN9 32X-MAX) and exactly the same problem. Whenever I restart the computer the Network Adapters have magically disappeared, and the only possible fix is to power everything down at the mains until the capacitors discharge and reboot. A massive inconvenience considering I have another issue with ridiculous (2-3 min) boot up times. This is happening with the retail version of 7. I have tried updating the nForce Drivers, Disabling Device sleep on disconnect in the NVIDIA Control Panel, and turned off allowing the computer to turn off the device to save power, all with absolutely no effect. Considering how widespread and how long this problem seems to have gone on I'm quite amazed this problem reached retail. Edit: my OS is 7 64-bit Professional

Amazing! This fixed the problem without any others cropping up, I tried updating with the most recent Win7 drivers but that just led to an almost as bad problem of it disconnecting every few minutes because the 'Default gateway is not available'. This fixed both problems. It never occurred to me to try vista drivers!

I'm facing the same issue. But when I try to 'update' the driver to 15.26, it keeps telling me I already have 'the best driver software for your device is already installed' and it won't update it. I guess BEST = Flawed Win7 64bit

Not sure what I was doing, but your directions are spot on.The ethernet port being turned off at random times was frustrating and made me consider dropping back to Vista. Thanks alot!

Hi Thanks for the tips but this doesn't work. I'm using newest NVIDIA 15.51 driver and my Ethernet connection looses connection often. Selecting "Diagnose this problem" (repair) always fixes it. But only for a few minutes. If I try downloading newest Ubuntu torrent I'm getting dropped almost instantly. Pretty serious bug, making me consider dropping back to Ol' Faithful Windows XP SP3. What I've tried: 1. I've tried loading all programs in Win XP SP3 mode + admin. = Doesn't work, same problem 2. Disabling 1 network card in bios = doesn't work 3. Reinstalling ethernet driver manually = doesn't work (still drops my ethernet) And no, there is no problem on my router. Running WRT54GL v1.1 with newest Tomato. I've got 3 other computers in the house which runs fine when Windows 7 decides my connection is gone. Sometimes listening to Spotify and surfing also drops my connection.

Hi Sardine,I followed the steps but under my network adapters I still have the "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller" and "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller #2" still not working properly. I'm using the 64 bit version so I downloaded the 25.26 set. The file I tried to use for the driver was under the C:\NVIDIA\nForceWinVista64Int\15.26\Ethernet folder and was named nvfd6064. Also, when I selected it I had the option of NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller or NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Virtual. I selected the option without Virtual after it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Was I supposed to select the Virtual option?

It sounds like you have done it correctly.you only get the Virtual option if you untick "show compatable hardware" dont use this one.check what version you have installed in device manager, propertites on "nvidia 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet", driver tabif it reads "Driver version 67.8.9.0" then all is ok and installed correctly, you might have to look at cables or router issues.. :(sorry.

I just did a clean install of Win7 Ultimate 64-bit on my machine with an IN9-32X-MAX board, and I'm having the same problem as the rest of you. Unfortunately I followed all of the directions here (tried both the latest version of nForce drivers and the 15.25 version), and I still get a "this device cannot start (code 10)" error in the device manager. Any ideas?

I wanted to update this thread for those who are still experiencing problems with loss both LAN ports for a possible work around that has worked 100% for me As those who know the LAN disappears from device manager after every reboot and can only be reinstated by a total power down of your system (unplug from wall) To get the LAN to work flawlessly every time: 1: Download 15.51_nforce_win7_64bit_whql.exe from Nvidia 2: Power down from the wall supply (switch off all power) then resume power on 3: Run the Nforce driver to extract all the drivers taking note of their location (usually C:\Nvidia) then cancel when extraction is complete 4: Open start and type "devmgmt.msc" without " and hit enter 5: with Device manger open locate the LAN ports in network adaptors (nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet) 6: Right click the LAN port properties / Driver tab/ Update driver 7: let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer then click have disk 8: Click browse and locate the extracted drivers (C:\NVIDIA\nForceWinVista64Eng\15.51\Ethernet\nvfd6x64.inf) 9: click ok, then ok again then next (windows has successfully updated your driver software) Close. All being well the LAN devices should now be called Nvidia Nforce networking controller & Nvidia Nforce networking controller#2 and you should now be able to reboot at any time without risk of losing your Ethernet ports P.S i ditched AirPace wifi card for a TPlink P.s.s, if this solution works for you, please register an let us know
