Abandoned GPOs: NetMeeting group policy settings in Windows 7 - Do they do anything?
Hello everyone,
I am planing a rollout of Windows 7 clients at the moment. As part of our process, I review the currently applied group policies. There I stumbled across some settings under "Administrative Templates / Windows components / NetMeeting". Since NetMeeting or
the Vista-replacement "Windows Meeting Space" are no longer part of Windows 7, I wondered if any application at all looks at these settings?
Maybe they are still used by "Microsoft Shared View", which is available as free download here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=95AF94BA-755E-4039-9038-63005EE9D33A&displaylang=en).
But since this is a separate to install application (requiring the rights to do so), why should I care for the GPOs?
By the way, does anybody here is aware of some more abandoned GPOs under Windows 7?
Greetings,
Martin

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
This GPO is used to configure Windows Firewall exception and manage Remote Desktop. Please refer to

Hi Magon,
in the TechNet article you referenced I only found a single setting refering to NetMeeting:
For Computer Configuration Path:
\Windows Components\NetMeeting Disable Remote Desktop Sharing
Does this setting really refer to the Remote Desktop feature? I thought of it as a built-in feature of NetMeeing.
As far as I understand it, there are two Remote Desktop features:
The Remote Assistance, which I have not used personally. The Remote Desktop Access, which allows a single session via RDP onto a desktop computer while looking the local console.
Does the setting refer to both features related to Remote Desktop or just the Remote Assistance?
Greetings,
Martin

Hi Martion,
I believe both
Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop Access use the same theory via Remote Desktop Sharing.
The \Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows components\NetMeeting branch contains one policy, Disable Remote Desktop Sharing. If enabled, this policy prevents users on the computer from using Remote Desktop Sharing. If enabled, this policy
prevents users on the computer from using Remote Desktop Sharing, Which allows a remote user to take control of the computer.
