Abandon Old File History and Start New on Different Drive

On W8 Pro,

Had an attached USB Drive for File History.

Needed USB Drive for something else.

Disconnected it and stopped file history.

File History says drive is disconnected.

I want to start is again on a new network drive, but system keeps asking me to reconnect the old one so that it can use history from it to use on the new one. I responded that I do nor want to use the old history.

Am not able to start File History on New Network Drive.

The Network Drive is a 4TB Seagate connected to the Router and also used for storing System Imges for this and other computers on the network.

Is there any way to convince the system that I never had a previous file history, so that I can start a new one ?

Hi,

For the issue, I think we cannot select "Yes" option.

Please click "No" to see if it works.

You can  refer to the similar thread about this issue:

Hope this helps.

Kevin hsu,

Sorry for the delay in answering. I had other VM problems.

Response to recover File History from previous drive is the same for "Yes" and "No".

The system insists it wants the old drive back. Which I do not have any more.

Also in trying to select a Network Drive connected to the Router does not work either for File History.

I have a Seagate Central (Simple NAS) and a Seagate 4Tb Extension Drive also connected to the router. Both are network drives, the first connected by ethernet and the latter by USB.

How can I convince the system that it has no previous File History on any drive ?

Kevin hsu,

I located and deleted File History amongst

the hidden Windows files. This took care of the old history drive requirement.

Tried to set it up for my network drive (4tb Extension). I created a folder called ARPRA-PC-FILE-HISTORY.

When I tried to activate File History, I got;

"Could not enable File History"

"The System cannot find the file specified.

Hi,

Sometimes, regarding this error,it may be caused by the Indexing Service.

I think we check Windows Search service to see if it is enable.

Please Open Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services>Windows Search and enable it.

If it doesn't work, please see the error log in the event view and upload here.

Regards,
