Lync 2016 Client Preview vs Skype for Business Client Preview

Hi everyone!

I have a question regarding latest Lync/Skype for Business client which is now in public beta - version 16.0.3726.1006.

Last night my Office 16 (which was downloaded in January from Connect) got updated to that exact version.

Here's the thing: I almost do like that new Skype for Business client.

Why almost? Because once I opened it, had a couple of quick conversations with my colleagues, and then somehow I got this message on top saying something like "Your server is not supporting Skype yet or your admin prefers to stick with only Lync clients so we have downgraded yours. Click to restart your Lync client now."

Something like that. Didn't really screenshoted it.

Ok, well. It worked just fine, nothing was broken. Until that message poped out.

Is there any way to get that brand new and shining Skype for Business client back? And to make it stay at the same time ;-)

Thanks!

If you admin team blocks the SFB client, you have to ask them to use the SFB client.

The SFB Client will work with Lync 2010 or 2013 server but is not the RTM release and you could have some issues with this client. You should use the SFB client only for testing I think.

Hi,

As the full version is not published, you may meet many unknown issues and it is better to be used for testing.

Base on my knowledge, if you want both Lync client and Skype for Business at the same time, you may need to install Office 2013 and Office 2016 at the same time.

This is fine - I mean testing thing and asking some far away admins regarding brand new beta software.

Sure thing, I do run betas like it should be: on VM, which could be redeployed any moment if something went south.

But all of these wasn't answering my question at all. Come on, this is not "Answers" here, right?

Once again, I was interesting in returning back that SFB client - it wasn't there even after I completely reinstalled my Click-to-Run installation. By completely I mean all the registry cleanup after Fixit from KB 2739501.

So, is there a way to bring it back and how it could be done? How make it stay at least until another Click-to-Run update? Actually these were my questions in the first place.

Hi Vladimir,

Please navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync and on the EnableSkypeUI enter the value 00 00 00 01

Cheers,
Chris

Hi, I have a question, I don't see that REG key entry(EnableSkypeUI) in the registry.

If I created it would it be a DWORD, Binary, etc.?

Thanks Chris,

Kemal

Hi Kemal,

It's Binary.

Chris.

Ok, but if the SkypUI is disabled thrue the Lync 2013 Client Policy, it will not work!

Since the CU update in february 2015 this Parameter EnableSkypeUI is available on the Lync 2013 server
