A Wireless connection is still in progress: 'Wait for the connection attempt to complete'
I am connecting toa wireless router through a HP 8510W notebook running Vista Business 32 (with all service packs and updates applied.) Much of the time, the connection works fine, but sometimes I seem to get locked out. When I searchforavailable wireless networks, I am told that'No wireless networks are available' This is untrue as I have two other (XP Pro) computers connected into the same router. When I diagnose this problem, I get a message box:A Wireless connection is still in progress 'Wait for the connection attempt to complete' However, the system just hangs there. If I have aproblem with an XP Pro machine, I can go to Network Connections and stop/start the adapter and watch progress as it attempts to reconnect. In Vista all this is unavailable to me. Stopping and starting the device through Device manager seems to resolve it. Switching off and switching on the wireless adapter (using the wireless button) does not help. Is there a fix forthis problem or a least a better way that I can monitor what Vista is doing? Thanks Jeff Davies

Thanks for that reply - it is good advice. I have checked the drivers and despite having both HPs and Microsofts automatic updates enabled and having installed everything recommended, they were not up to date. I have installed the updates. Being an intermittent problem, I willl now have to wait and see if the problem has been resolved, but if not then the troubleshooting article is just what I was looking for Cheers Jeff

Maybe it's caused by other factors that affect the wireless signal from time to time, you can check why my wireless network speed is slow article to troubleshoot more. You should reposition wireless router or access point at a clearer area and minimize the blocking from thick wall and other obstacles.dawooddHome Network, Wireless Network Made Easy

I'm having the exact same problem with Dell XPS1330 with an Intel 4965AGN driver version 12.1.0.14 from 8/28/2008

Yes - We are both using using the same Intel chipset. I have only noticed the problem once since updating my driver and that was still older than yours Looks like it is a driver problem - Intel has just released a new driver version v12.1.2.1. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2753&DwnldID=17158&strOSs=154&OSFullName=Windows%20Vista*%20Business,%2032-bit%20version&lang=eng There are some release notes that suggest that it may be a problem with hibernation and Intel suggests turning hibernation off. Very green! Will have to wait and see if this release completely fixes the problem. Jeff
