A Crazy Internet Problem
Hello. I'm having a terrible time with the internet. Its a peculiar problem which has me and my Dad, a once small business owner scratching our heads.Personally, I love Windows 7. Almost all the applications work beautifully, and the thing runs on my three year old Optiplex 745. The only problem I've had is with Google's Chrome, my favorite browser. but now I'm off trackWhen I open internet explorer, it tells me it cannot find the webpage. ANY webpage. Not a single page will load. Windows diagnostic check also can't find a problem. However, I know that I am connected to the internet, because using the command prompt to ping a server always gets a reply, and applications that contacta server also work. The applications that I've used that work are Blockland and Zune, although I can't sign in with my zune account (It tells me there is an issue connecting tothe server or something)I'm thoroughly baffled. can anyone help me?

This is I beleive a problem with the Router or Cable Modem. I have a Cable modem connected to my NetGear WGR614 v6 wireless router. Periodicaly the router hangs and requires a power reset. This never happened untilI added the Windows 7 system. It has been driving me quite crazy! I have spent a lot of hours inivestigating this situation comparing logs, monitors, and constantly watching the statistics on my router. When the router locks up other computers connected to it also can not access resources. I have traced the lockup to the Windows 7 box.Additionally I have disabled the Window 7 firewall and am using the Norton 360 beta. I have also disabled IPv6 as some here have recommended.I have also set a static IP addresson the Windows 7 box. What I have observed is that about the time of the Router lockup, Windows 7 starts and stops a couple of services usually those that use network resources I believe. They never seem to be the same ones.At that pointthe NetworkMonitor I am using usually shows the Windows 7 box making repeated requests of the router, which at that point are not acknowledged. Further research on the Internet has indicated this use to also happen with Vista and some Routers. Unfortunately I have not been able to dig up a solution prescribed for that issue either. I never ran Vista. Stayed away from it, but read good things about this beta, so thought I woud try it. Like it except for the issue with my router. So those of you having network issues you may want to take a look at what your routers are doing.

I also turned off AutoDetect under LAN settings, still no joy. Router still hangs taking down my home network! Seems a little extreme to have to go out and buy another one.
