AVG Updates started failing with Parental Controls
Vista Home Premium SP1 (RTM) AVG 7.5 On my daughters' computers with parental controls enabled AVG will not update. If I disable the PC the update works fine. I have contacted Grisoft and repaired and reinstalled AVG to no avail... Things I have tried: 1. Allows websites *.grisoft.com, net and gz. 2. Set permissions for their user accounts on the AVG folders 3. Disabled web content filtering altogether None of the above worked. So I disable parental controls altogther and the update works fine. Also When I first install AVG (daughters account, prompted for my user account) it works until I restart, logoff and back in. This started happening when I (for a punishment updated the parental controls to block more) and even when I opened them backup it does not work. This is currently happening on two of my daughters computers and I have tried over and over again and nothing. Thanks for any assistance. James

Hi James, You may also need to add the AVG files that check for updates to your allowed list in Parental Controls. 1. Open Parental Controls in Control Panel. 2. Click the "Allow and Block Specific Programs" option. 3. You can choose All programs or Only those I allow. 4. For the later choice, you should place a check mark next to avginet.exe and avgcc.exe, for example. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply: I can try this, but the current policy is allow all programs (basically I am not using this feature). Do you think that this should be the same as allowing them specifically? Is there a way to see a list of items being blocked? because the only proof that I have that this is PC's is that when I disable them altogether AVG works. Thanks, Jim

OK still not working but here is what I have done... 1. Tried enabling restrictions on application and allowing AVG. This did not work even after a reboot. 2. Set parental controls back to allow all... 3. uninstalled AVG. disabled parental controls, made my daughters account an administrator. 4. rebooted. 5. installed AVG again. Updated it and ll worked good, except Security Center did not see it installed. 6. Ran through Q555962 to fix security center, it did. 7. Removed her account from admins, reenabled parental controls 8. Sec center is still good but now AVG will not update again. Back to square one.... Any info I can get to fix this would be appreicated. Thanks Jim
