Windows 7 is a new operating system (only the beta version); it is common some third-party software could not be working well with the system. I suggest that you should wait for another period of time until theWindows 7retail versionis isreleased and push theAVG vendor to publish the compatible software. Thanks for your time and understanding!

Hello, I think you might first refer to the following KB article to know more about the Event ID 7030.Event ID 7030 Basic Service OperationsOf course, I would give your problem to the relative department; if it is really a Microsoft product issue, I believe that it should be resolved in the retail version. Meanwhile, since the event log is generated by the third-party software, you should also involve its support to solve the problem.

Andy, thanks andI am fully aware of the Event ID information. My question was the cause and possible solution. As far as "give your problem to the relative department" -- I am here posting so those at msft can see it and take action. I have no other access to their departments or the private beta newsgroups. As you point out, the "log is generated by a third party software", in this case AVG, and that I should "involve its support to solve the problem". Andy, I am an unsolicited beta tester, and I used AVG because that was one that was recommended in the beta. I likewise would expect AVG to be reading posts here and take their own action. I see my job as a tester to report problems with postings placed here, not negotiate with Microsoft or third party software companies. It's up to them to act (or not) on reported problems. Gib

Hi Gib It's very likely that AVG is trying to use the email scanner component, not finding an email client and generating the error event. Email scanners included with AV products have been shown to be redundant since any emailattachment that contains a virus, and is opened by the useror automatically, wouldimmediately be picked up by the normal protection capabilities of the AV software. Even Symantec/Norton admitted this in a white paper they published a while back. I'm a long time user of AVG and when I install AVG on any system, I install it without the Email Scanner. The only thing it actually does is slow down the email client. The conclusion is that you can safely ignore those error events. Comment: As a beta tester, and customer,we carry a lot more clout than Microsoft does when it comes to convincing software vendors that there is a problem with their product and they need to update it. >It's very likely that AVG is trying to use the email scanner component, not finding an email client and generating the error event.Hi Ron,Well, it was another surprise when I found that there was no native email client like Windows Mail in this beta version. I guess we are reduced to using windows Live instead, and obviously AVG is looking for a pop3 client and none are found.>Comment: As a beta tester, and customer,we carry a lot more clout than Microsoft does when it comes to convincing software >vendors that there is a problem with their product and they need to update it.I'd like to believe that, but my year long experience in the Vista beta and trying to install and sucessfully run AV products was that there were a lot of problems and they continued even up to and beyond the RTM. I'm seeing the same pattern in the Win7 beta so far.Is anyone listening? Paging all AV vendors -- come in, come in...Gib
