AR5007UG Wlan adaptor install results in Blue Screen on Vista 32 business
Hi, Summary - I've bought a Minitar MWGUHA wireless adaptor with antenna to improve my WiFi range, but installing it, trying to disable it, trying to change its driver results in Blue Screen Crash and reboot. The adapter is identified by the PC as a AR5007UG, which I understand is the chip set and common to many brands of adaptors. The same devise on my old XP laptop works fine, but having ticked every box when I bought this Vista laptop, I'd like to carry on using it. Are there any known problems of compatibility between the AR5007UG based devices and Vista (Business, 32) and ideally any known solutions. My Machine Spec - Dell XPS M1330, 4 months old Duo T7500 2.2 3.5gb ram built in wifi, built in blue tooth. etc.. Original Aim - I'm currently renovating my home, so have been living in a caravan on my land whilst the house has been in pieces, I need to get a stronger WiFi signal to my laptop, so I can use my PC in the evening. The Wifi built into the machine works fine, but just not more than 10 feet from the house. My original wifi router gave great siganl in the house and into the garden, but not to the caravan, so I've tried a new router (rangemax), new adapter (rangemax), usb extention cables to shorten the distance from the adaptor to the router; all with limited success and irregular signal. I bit the bullet accepted that everything I'd bought todate to add a few yards to my range wasn't going to do the job, and bought a huge atenna and this Minitar w-lan adapter with an ariel input to get a usbale signal strength over the 40 yards. It works, with my old XP laptop (done as a test to make sure it wasnt an issue with the adaptor itself) , but seems to have an issue with Vista. Solutions I have tried. The device came with a mini CD with drivers on it. Running the CD and the install crashed (blue screen) - atempted several times Using the laptop with its inbuilt wifi on, and with in range, I've just plugged the device in and let windows automatically install it. Result, it was installed as a AR5007UG, driver 2.0.2.12. but did not function. I noted that the driver was newer than the one on the CD, so tried to switch to that driver, but any atempt to diable, change driver from the devices properies window resulted in blue screen. I've cleared by laptop back to factory settings, run windows update and checked for any updates on the Dell site too (in case there were any conflict issues between the previosuly used w-lan adaptors), and run the CD and let windows download a driver its self, all with no change and lots of blue screens. Can anyone point me in the right direction, as I'm no techno expert, and want to beleive in the plug-in-play philosophy, and I'm running out of hair to pull out. Thanks Harry

Hi, It seems a compatibility issue between the device and Windows Vista. I suggest that you contact the wireless adapter manufacturer to confirm if the product is fully compatible with Windows Vista and to check the latest driver. Additionally, please understand that Microsoft provides different support services which have different service levels and support boundaries. For blue screen crash issues, it is necessary to debug the related crash dump to locate the root cause. Debugging is out of our forums support boundary. As a result, if it is confirmed that the product is fully compatible with Windows Vista, I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance, the support professionals there are better qualified to assist you. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request, please take a look at the website listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS Thank you for your understanding.
