ANNOUNCEMENT: Test for Windows 7 Beta Starts 2/24/2009
A special test for theMicrosoft Update component in the Windows 7 Beta will be conducted, starting tomorrow February 24, 2009.Here is the official announcement. Upcoming updates for Windows 7 testing Hi all, Starting on February 24th we will be offering some test updates to Windows 7 Beta (build 7000) computers. We do typically verify update scenarios during a Beta, and releasing these test updates will help ensure that when we need to release real updates, the process will run smoothly. There will be at most five updates. These updates test the Windows 7 servicing infrastructure. They will not deliver any new features or fixes. The updates will be offered interactively. This means that users will be notified of available updates, but they wont install automatically. Users will need to go to the Windows Update control panel and manually start installation. They will also be clearly titled as a test update. If you dont want to install the updates then you can right click on each update and select Hide update to prevent it from being shown in the list of available updates. MU Team Upcoming updates for Windows 7 testing Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta Ronnie Vernon MVP

All 5 were installed on my x64 system. Only comment I have is that after I press the restart button, the message on the screen reverts to something about applying the updates and then shutting down. The message should not say shutdown if it is really going to do a restart.

I got 5 updates offered, but because i have Automatic updates set to notify me only i got a message there were updates available, going and checking showedKb 967355Kb 967540Kb 967062Kb 963660Kb 962921all downloaded and installed ok, HOWEVER, i noticed that during the reboot, when you get the windows is installing updates please do not switch off your computer screen, it went to 30% then straight to reboot, whether this is an issue or it is 'that quick' that it takes about 30 secs to get to 30% then does the last 70% in a split second i dont know. Just thought i best mentioned this. No issues so far since installing these packages. Windows 7 build 7000 64 bit.

February 25th, 2009 7:33am

I installed all 5 updates including the two marked Test. My Dell Dimension 400 desktop restarted in Repair mode, said it couldn't fix the problem. Diagnostics said it couldn't find any problems except one, a configuration modification. Now I'm trying to figure out how to boot successfully. The updates installed without problems in my two other computers, one an ACER Aspire laptop; the other a Dell XPS 400 (I omitted the two Test updates, installing the three substantive updates on the XPS).My overall experience with Windows 7 has been very positive. And if I can restart my dead computer, I'll avoid Test updates in the future.ROGER KUHNrku2@msn.com

Now I have a Tray Icon that tell me new updates are available, but when I click on Tray Icon W7 say all ok "no updates are available". A restart do not help, the Tray Icon comes again, install was yesterday.

Yeh I have a notice in the action center to troubleshoot my back up settings which I have done but the notice will not go away. Maybe it will go away today. I have gone back and rechecked everything. You might want to go ahead and install the 2 updates and maybe they will go away. Can't hurt anything anyway. They were put there for a reason and I'm always afraid I will miss out on something if I don't :) Oh well that is what it is all about. Have a good one chamblisstom@bellsouth.net
