ALL 3 browsers crash often. Windows XP
I have a 6 yr old Dell pc, running windows XP service pack3. I have plenty space on my hard drive, don't download music or play games. In other words, this pc has an easy life! BUT Firefox crashes way too often, so I went back to using my IE. It doesn't crash as much, but did enough to prompt me to try another browser. Now using Google Chrome (love it!) after day two it started crashing too! Chrome has xlnt reviews claiming it pretty much doesn't crash. But it has been for me. Luckily, when it does it's just the one tab and all I need to do is click on the refresh and the site reappears easily. But still! This crashing with all 3 browsers should not be happening. I'd like to fix the problem. Any ideas on this would be great! Thanks! 1 person needs an answerI do too

What happens when it crashes? Do you get an error message of any kind?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Hi thanks! Most the time I get the usual: "(browser name) has encountered a problem....needs to close." With Chrome it usually says "oops! snap" then I just refresh the page. Sometimes Chrome shows a little drop down that says: "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash" That's probably something that can be fixed I'm assuming? We can start there. But that may only be a Chrome crash problem? So, to finish answering your Q, no I never have received the actual error message with a code on it. Not for the browser crashings. Thanks again!! Lori

Hmmm...I might try uninstalling and reinstalling Shockwave Flash. Control Panel | Programs...What anti-virus software are you using?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

I was using microsoft Security Essentials free version but I didn't care for it. So 2 days ago I installed Avast. It's the free version and only gives use for 30 days but I really like it so far so I may buy their Internet Security full version, it has firewall and antispam and more. It's few reviews are good. (still in beta) I've tried others as well. These crashing issues have been going on during both anti-virus's though. So what does Shockwave Flash do anyway? Do I need it? I know some plug-ins are recommended to disable. Thanks!

You can uninstall it totally if you want...-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Hi, I did uninstall, and reinsatall Adobe Flash Player using adobe's downloaders. I do need it for my use on this pc. NOW the weird thing is, when I restarted my pc, it took well over a minute to come up and load. It's always had a fast start. I restarted several times since, and still very slow. What the heck?? I was told a while back that a refrag may resolve most these issues. So I am going to try that after I learn more on what parts of this pc to have it refrag. I don't want to mess any thing up more. I did choose and download one. Can you guess as to weather you think this may help with the browser crashing and the slowww pc start?

Defrag could help with performance. I'd be surprised if it makes any difference with the browser crashing. Sounds like your machine may just have some fundamental problems - bad sectors on the hard drive perhaps or some real issues in the system registry.-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

I had the same problem on both my computers, so obviously it's some kind of malware. On one computer i've reinstalled my windows xp3 and now all browsers are working fine. The other computer is having the same problem with opera, firefox, ie and chrome. They crash randomly, some pages are working, some not, but no more than 3 pages.
