ADs router layer.dll - cyber protection racket - Windows impostor uses the shield logo and hi-jacks Windows Security
Can anyone advise how to get rid of this malware? It has hi-jacked Windows Security and pretended it has switched off the firewall - and the only way to switch it back on is by signing up to "XP antivirus" i.e. sending money your bank details etc to these crooks.I checked the firewall by another route and according to what appeared to be the genuine Windows dialogue box it was still switched on.It has blocked antivirus updates and compromised Windows Defender. It blocks the update mpam fe.exe from running so that a system scan can detect and remove it. My antivirus is ananquest fix-it utilities professional version 7. The malware blocked the installation of the latest virus pattern files. Now the antivirus software thinks I have the latest pattern files installed already when I don't.It has also taken control of Internet Explorer and closed the browser every time I tried to type this on there.I have tried searching for the file using the Windows search tool but Windows can't find it - i.e. ADs router layer.dll - cannot find it under router layer or any other search terms. The malware cannot be identified on the list of programs but every time I go to Add/Remove Programs - and when I try to use Defender - it attacks the screen with the usual pop-ups with a bogus virus scan detecting bogus viruses trying to blackmail you into sending it your money and personal details. Is MS aware of this impostor and does it have a solution? At no stage did I consent to the installation of this software - even in error.4 people need an answerI do too
