64-bit WIN7 startup problem.
I built a system around ASUS MB, AMD triple core, corsair ram 750GB HDD etc. Installed the system ok, all peripherals working. After one day the startup "hung" after the Start Windows screen, you know the one where the bubbly flowers merge into that windows log. I tried to boot from DVD, but couldn't get past the load windows off the DVD, would handg there. I tried an ERD commander disk and couldt get past the initial installation. I then replace the mobo and managed to get past the Start Windows, the system let me select the usual startup parameters etc. So I thought, ok it was the mobo ... but then totay, after 2 days, the system "hung" during a file transfer. I tried to re-start, but this time (dj vu???) wouldn't let me get past the startup screen. Any ideas? The DVD of either VISTA BUSINESS and WIN 7RC will not let me get past the Start Windows ... I have been in the undustry for the last 12 years but at a loss here. Cheers.

No, it runs at a native 3x2.8 Ghz speed, so no oc issues ... beats me why I need to repair startup every 2 days?? Another thing I noticed is that the startup partition is a separate 100MB partition, no drive letter with the usual sartup files on it. Thanks!

Just came up with a message: starup repair cannot repair startup automatically do you want to send files to Microsoft or some words to that effect. The startup repair tried to start using system restore first, but "hung" again ... What a nuissance. Cheers

Hi deednets, The error message indicates that the issue is caused by a damaged driver rather than a problematic driver update. Based on the current situation, I suggest you boot into safe mode to disable devices in Device Manager and boot into Normal Mode. If the computer can be boot into Normal Mode after disable specific devices, we can enable one device at a time to find out the cause. Follow the steps below to disable the devices: Device Clean Boot ================ 1. Click "Start", type "DEVMGMT.MSC" in the Search textbox and press Enter. Please click Allow if the User Account Control window is prompted. 2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers". 3. Right click on your Sound Card, select "Properties" 4. Click "Driver" tab, click Disable (Disable the selected device). Click OK. 5. Please use the same method to disable other hardware: Display adapter, Modem, network adapter, CD-R drive. Note: The display resolution will be changed after disabling the display adapter. Then test restart into Normal Mode. If the computer can be boot up, we can re-enable the devices we disabled one at a time, restart the computer to see if issue reoccurs. The last device we enabled should be the problematic device if issue reoccurs. We can try to upgrade the driver for the device. If the computer still cannot be boot up after disable devices in Device Manager, let's boot into Safe Mode again, input MSCONFIG in Start --- Search box. Check the box "Base Video" in Boot tab, click OK and restart again. This can help us load default display card driver to see if it is the cause. Besides, you can try to run a Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Cecilia Zhou

Thanks Cecilia for your extensive reply to my question. The problem was the fact that the computer wouldn't start AT ALL, so NO chance to boot into safe mode or type msconfig etc. The system "hung" at startup showinf windows starting - and that was it... in safe mode it only got to the windows starting ... I couldn't boot from CD/DVD either ... got into startup repair and "hung" there ... Suspected faulty motherboard, replaced the motherboard ... and ran into the same problem again?? This time though I could boot into diagnostics from the WIN 7 DVD and found that the graphics driver update (through WIN7 update...) was the culprit, disabled automatic updates and voil there she was, working like charm... Cheers Deed
