5 extra (nonexistent) drives show in Windows Explorer
I recently noticed that in Windows Explorer, under My Computer, I have 5 extra drives listed. They are lettered F, G, H, I & J. In the properties of all of them, they are listed as "Removable Disk" with unknown file system, 0 used space and 0 free space. I have an extra hard drive installed internally for back-up and it is drive M. Initially I had thought that it was listing the empty usb ports, but inserting a thumb drive in a usb port will get letter K, and a second thumb drive will get letter L and all 5 mystery drives remain. Any idea why they're there or how to get rid of them?

Do you have a printer with a card reader and multiple slots? do you have a card reader with multiple slots attached to your computer? Usually those get picked up like that... You are correct. I do have a built-in multi-card reader that I never use and is in a hidden, fold out bay. Out of sight, out of mind. When I looked in device manager I could see that all of these drives were labeled with the various card types (SD/MMC etc.). What I still don't understand though is why they show in explorer all of the time. In Tools>Folder Options>View I have checked the box for "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder", but they remain, and I'm fairly certain that their appearance is relatively new. Why did they suddenly appear, and why won't they go away?Acer M5800, Intel Core 2 Q8200, 2GB Ram, Win7 Ultimate 32bit

I have the identical problem on my Win7 64 bit. I have E,F,G, and H, all listed as USB cf readers. I have a card reader, USB ports and a printer with a USB but the same thing: I don't want them listed if they are not being used. I also confirmed the "Hide empty drives..." box is checked. My computer is fairly new and so is this problem.
