50% packet loss on wireless network
Hello,This problem appeared out of nowhere a few weeks ago (after installing some of the Vista updates... which might not be the issue, just for your information). Straight to the point:The setting is a home wireless network. Windows Vista Home Premium on a Compaq Presario Laptop (hardwear is fine, see below)Symptoms are as follows:1. Slow/intermitted connection to the internet through a wireless router. When I ping yahoo or google I get 50% loss of packets.2. If I reconnect from the network it is unlikely that I will connect back to it without rebooting. Windows error mesages vary ridiculously. But in a nutshell windows is unable to repair the problem automatically.3. Hardwear is fine. Accidentally I discovered that booting in a "safe mode" makes all networking problems go away, i.e. the connection is as fast as it used to be.So, I'm thinking some networking settings are messed up on my machine. I will try ipconfig /renew and reboot. When I come back there better be an answer here )) thanks in advanceAlexUPDATE: My issue seems to be similar to http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3007162&SiteID=17

Hi Alex, As the issue doesnt occur in Safe Mode, I suggest performing Clean Boot in Windows Vista for troubleshooting. Please refer to the following KB article for the detailed steps: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 If Clean Boot does not work, please try the solution in the following KB article to check the result: You may experience connectivity issues or performance issues when you connect a mobile PC that is running Windows Vista to a wireless access point http://support.microsoft.com/?id=928152 Hope it helps.
