410 MB of Temp Files
Hi! I have Vista Home Basic on my laptop and recently i started facing the folder renaming problem, which btw is still not fixed! But anyway, i just noticed that in the C:\Windows\winsxs\Temp folder theres a folder titled PendingRenames that is taking up close to 410 MB of space. I have tried every possible means of deleting it, but no luck. Normally it gives me an Access Denied message and if i try and take ownership of the folder, my system just crashes. I have tried using the right click menus, DOS (CMD.EXE)...everything..still no luck! The last time i tried using CMD to delete the entire folder my system just crashed.Anybody got a clue what could be causing Vista to take up so much space? I'm guessing its to do with the renaming problem only because the folder itself is called PendingRenames, but other than that I'm lost....and i hate to see precious dsk space being lost.Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi, Thank you for your post. The files under the PendingRenames folder are generated after certain update packages have been installed, and they are waiting for Windows Update to do something with them during the computer restart. Most of them will be deleted automatically after you reboot the system. In this case, please reboot the box to check if the space can be released. Regarding the folder renaming issue, please provide the exact wording of the error message for further research. Generally, it should be a permission issue. Thus, you may check the ACL for that folder which failed to be renamed. Hope it helps. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
