3rd party VPN applications installed on Win7 Enterprise laptop cause no active network interface to be found. Works fine on Win7 Enterprise Desktop.
I was advised to post over here from answers.microsoft.com community. After reviewing some posts on how to setup VPN in a networked environment through Windows, it doesn't appear that will answer my question. Here is the initial inquiry: Having an issue with a Lenovo laptop Softphone SJPhone installed in Windows 7. Whenever I install a 3rd party VPN utility such as Juniper Network connect or Aventail Connect, the softphone loses the ability to recognize my primary network IP address as the active network interface. We don't even have to connect to the VPN, just the installation of Aventail or Juniper causes the softphone to lose the ability to locate the primary network adapter, which should be the laptops We have gone to SJ Labs, who was subsequently purchased by MagicJack and no longer supports the software. The VPN utilities function perfectly fine installed on a desktop with similar configuration. The problem is resolved by uninstalling the VPN software from the laptop. We have tried reinstalling the software, then loading the VPNs and vice versa. Starting the applications in Administrative mode does not make a difference either. If the program works fine on the desktop, what am I missing that is preventing it from continuing to recognize my primary IP address on the laptop? Thanks in advance, and please let me know if any further infromation is needed. Hi, It seems the issue is related to the compatibility between SJPhone and the 3rd part VPN program. To get more help, you could contact the application vendor directly, they are more familiar with their products.Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

Hi Kim, Any reasoning behind this? If it works fine on a Desktop computer running the same image of Windows 7 Enterprise. I am not opposed to trying to contact Juniper or Aventail for support, however since it is any 3rd party VPN utility that provides a virtual network address, it seems like this is more a problem with drivers/config. Thank you for your response, I will open a case with Juniper and hope for the best. I would appreciate any further feedback/opinions from anyone else as well however and will still frequent this thread. If I find anything over there, I will be sure to return and post the solution.

Anyone else have any other ideas? I am still stumped on this one. Juniper will not open a case without paying for it, and Aventail forums are dead as far as support goes.
