32-bit OS, x64-based Processor

Hi,

when i go to computer info in windows 8 it is showing that i have 32-bit OS, x64-based Processor. i am slightly confused. does this mean i have a 32 bit OS installed but my computer is compatible with 64 bit?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Exactly.

Your OS installed is x86 (32-bit) and your CPU is x64 (64-bit) compatible.

You can run both x86 and x64 OS with your CPU.

Hopefully that answers your question. :)

So to ask a question related to this..

I have exactly the same processor specs.  I have both Windows 8 Pro 32 and 64.  I have downloaded 32.  Should I download 64?

Thanks!

64bit is recommended if you want to be able to use more than 4GB RAM. Also, some programs may run better on a 64bit OS even if you don't have more than 4GB RAM. As for which you should be using, it depends on your requirements. Another plus side of 64bit is if you only have 4GB RAM now, and your hardware supports it, you can upgrade your RAM later on.

Hey, I have 2 GB RAM on my PC. Should I install Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit? And that too from the same product key I've purchased for Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit?

I'm Also Confused about this topic and after i knew x64 bit OS is compatible i've been so better because everything on 64 bit is better and available more than 32 bit (x84) bit but the important question is what better to be installed on my PC 32 or 64 bit ? and if i install 64 bit OS would it be lag on my pc?

Ali, if your computer has at least 4GB RAM then you should install 64bit. Installing 64bit on less than 4GB RAM does not make it slower but you will have the opportunity to upgrade to higher RAM without having to do anything with Windows.
