I don't think that is possible, what did you seen that prove this, would you explain a bit more in order to find out what happend. It is possible that account holder change name .For example .... @hotmail.com belongs to user1 and that user could change it to user2, if want to, same user different names.

From time to time (and today is an example) I get personal emails correctly addressed to me which are clearly not for me but for someone else with this address who, I think, is in the States. I think I will reply to them and get them to confirm the address, and then I'll get back to you.

Don't respond to the scammers as they will know your email is a live and will try to hit you hard. Unless you are a spam & spammers hunter keep digging but you need to be quick and in stealth mode! nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk

Thanks for this, but I think you have misunderstood. The person sending the email has their own address, different to mine. The email has been sent to 5 or 6 addresses including mine - it is an invitation to "drinks and snacks"! I don't know the sender and I suspect she is in the States (I am in the UK). I am tempted to go back to her and ask her where she has got "my" email address from. This is not the first time I have received apparently personal emails correctly addressed to me but of no relevance to me. Could it be an attempt at phishing?

Hi,Sorry for the misunderstanding but from the header of your message, it looks like both of you having the same email Address not the same domain name which hotmail.com!This a normal spam/marketing emails and you don't need to bother with answering this sort of messages atALL as it will encourage more Spam emails and you will be sold to other Marketers around the world! This spam email can happen if you submit your email address to some forums or even somebody you emailed and they saved your contact address in their contact folder then their computer been infected and they harvested the contacts from their machine (go figure). In this time and era of Spam , it is normal to get some even you didn't submit or emailed anyone, they sometime use software to guess names and send them out bymass mail software.Just block it and save yourself the hassle and I don't think she will be she, she will be He or they!!!Bottom line don't bother answering back and just clear the message(s), don't bother reading either if you don't know the sender. Also never ever fill a form sent to you by a dodgy website claiming it is your bank, there are lots of spoof emails going around asking for info update to hack your account (or any account). Your bank never ask you for updates for your info by email only by special security agent working in the bank and only can ask you certain security questions. This an advice forall not just the OP .nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
