2 PCs XP home linksys router networking used to work now nothing__
Hi, I have 2 pcs xp home sp3 and a router linksys WRT310n. I can get to the internet successfully on both machines. I want to network them. It used to work and then I reinstalled xp on one machine and now it wont work. I have run the network wizard, disk in the 2nd machine, then on to file sharing and ticked the boxes wait while file permissions where set up but nothing. and to top it off on folder that I have deleted gone not even in the recycle bin keeps appearing and I cant remove because I dont have authority to do that. I have AVG (uptodate) and I have run that no viruses. really getting tired of this. Any suggestion would be great, Thanks in advance, John1 person needs an answerI do too

Regarding the folder that keeps appearing, try taking ownership of the folder first and then delete it..."How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP"<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421 >Shot-in-the-dark: For XP Home to network, it is necessary that the "Guest" account on your machine is activated. Make sure it is activated by bringing up a command window (Start -> Run -> "cmd") and enter the command: net user guest /active:yesA little more description about what doesn't work would be helpful. What happens when you bring up a command window and enter the command: nbtstat -a computer1where you replace "computer1" with the name of the other XP machine? What error do you get when you enter the command: net use * \\computer1\sharewhere you substitute your other computername for "computer1" and the name of the share for "share"?HTH, JW
