2 Networks...Intermittant Loss of Connectivity
hello... just came over from XP Pro...had to get a 64-Bit machine; & went w/ an ASUS running Win7 Home...which I upgraded to Pro. I began to lose my internet connectivity, intermittantly...& noticed that, when it happened, the Netwofk icon in the task bar showed TWO networks...(???)...one labeled 'Network - No Internet Access'; & the other labeled: 'Unidentified Network - No Internet Access'. sometimes the problem would go away if i rebooted, but eventually it became a permanent dilemna. Verizon checked my modem...said it was fine but sent me a new one anyway. Same problem continued. Took the PC back to best buy & swapped it for a new one...& it's been fine 'till this evening. It denied me access once...I rebooted; & got it back. Obviously, something is amis w/ Win 7 Pro in the way the network connection is set up...can't be two modems or two computers. anyone have any thoughts on how to rectify this problem...??? thanx, mark4man

UPDATE: on the above problem, I noticed it seems to happen right around the time that the OS goes looking for windows updates. UPDATE2: it happened again this morning...I rebooted; & was fine. THEN...as i went to shutdown...there were the doggone windows updates, ready to install. I still think this has something to do w/ the cause mark4man

Hi, Thanks for the post. This should be a driver issue, please make sure that the driver of Network Adapter is latest version. Also, please disable the firewall for a test. Meantime, you may try to ping a public DNS name to check whether the correct IP address can be returned back. If you have further question about this issue, please feel free to let me know. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. juke... thanx...!!! will check new pc documentation in the morning for updating network adapter. Also, please disable the firewall for a test ok...think i can do that...what kind of test...??? Meantime, you may try to ping a public DNS name to check whether the correct IP address can be returned back verizon went thru that w/ me...it was successful...they were also able to determine that the modem was communicating w/ the pc. something else I wanted to add... 1) turned off windows updates & the problem continues to occur 2) EVERY TIME this problem occurs...the network icon in the task area identifies TWO networks thanx again, mark4man UPDATE: Device Manager tells me it's a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller...attempting to update thru that applet tells me it's already the latest & greatest. Driver Robot sez the same thing.

Hi, If your internet connection is a PPPoE dial-up connection. There shoud have two networks. The purpose to disable firewalls is used for determining whether the firewall block the Internet connection. I assume that this issue is not related to Windows update.
