16 bit app and UAC
I have a Windows 7 machine with UAC enabled. I'm trying to run a 16-bit application. The app opens up and for the most part is functional on Windows 7. One particular feature (search function) within the program will not work (hangs) if UAC is turned ON. Works fine if UAC is turned off. I have been trying for 3 days using procmon to see what could be causing this issue. I don't have access to the source code to see what exactly what the search button does. Is there any troubleshooting steps that I can take? Thanks

Try adjusting the shortcut for the application launcher and look at the properties, and then the compatibility tab, and try setting it to XP, and play around with it, if it's a 16bit app, you may want to run as Windows 95 compatibility mode.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. The answer is always 42, or reboot.

The app actually runs from a network drive, so I'm not able to do that. I did try copying the whole network directory down to my desktop, and set the compatability options on the exe, but didn't work.

Well, does the vendor for the application have a new version of the software? or is thier another software that can perform that role? 16bit apps are just not aware of the new changes to enhance security. You have a couple options. 1. Stand up an XP machine to run that application 2. Disable UAC, this can lead to possible problems if your not covering your bases on security practices. 3. Look for a new application.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. The answer is always 42, or reboot.

Hi, Also, I suggest you lanuch this application as Administrator for a test. Maybe, this application is too old to be detected whether it need administrative privilege by UAC.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. It doesn't work as administrator either when UAC is enabled.
