Hello kenny p,Question 1:1. Did you make any changes to the computer (hardware or software) before having this issue?I suggest that you start your computer in ‘Safe Mode’ to check if this is caused by some of the Third Party services.Follow the below steps to boot the computer to ‘Safe Mode’:a. Restart your computer if it is powered on.b. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.c. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.d. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.e. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.f. Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges. If you don’t get any error in ‘Safe Mode’, you can set your computer to clean boot from Safe Mode and check if you have the same issue. You can refer the below article that will give you information on ‘Clean boot’:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Question 2:1. What is the exact error message you get when the Hibernation fails on your computer? On my research I find that most of the times, it is the Antivirus program that initiates the .Net framework service. You should see this running in the process. Setting computer to clean boot should take care of it. Set the computer to hibernation when in clean boot state. Thanks,Irfan H, Microsoft Answers Support Engineer. Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

Thanks for the response, Irfan. Here's more detail.!. To answer your question, I got the can't hibernate message first (See below). Not sure why, have been using PC Chilin as antivirus service for a few years. I eventually went into Control Panel, add & remove programs, and deleated all the netframework listed there. There was no change so I then downloaded those back, thinking I need them for some reason. However, I was unable to complete the download for the NF v1.1 sp updates. The exact error message is: "The service 'Microsoft. netframework v1.1.4322 update' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again". As far as I remember, I didn't do anything different before this message appeared. When "ok' is clicked, message disappears.2. I tried the safe mode startup and received no error message. I also ran the system configuration utility as outlined in the article on clean boot. However, when I rebooted and/or restarted in normal mode, the 'fatal error' messaged appeared. It says, "Fatal execution engine error 0x7927f22e." When I click 'ok' this pops up: (title) 'Cli.exe- common language runtime debugging services' (text is) 'application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x6fc(1788)' Then it asks to click "ok" to terminate application, or "Cancel" to debug application. When I click "ok" message just disapppears. When I click "Cancel" the message, "no debugger found; registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code 0x2(2). Please check computer settings. Cordbg.exe!a 0x520." These follow; "retry-process waits while attaching debugger manually" or "cancel to abort JIT debugging request." Message disapppears which ever is clicked.additionally, when I try and start Media Center or Support icons, the same 'fatal execution' error appears but the debugging warning has a different title (launch.exe) and different Process id (0x6fc(1788), and Thread id (0xdio(3344).
