Hello, 1. When the issue first occurred? Is it immediately after you installed the Windows Vista computer? Or, have you installed some update packages or third-party applications before the issue occurred? 2. Could you write down and upload the exact error message while accessing shared folder on Windows Server 2003? Is it "0x80070005 access denied"? 3. Does the issue exist on all shared folders on the Windows Server 2003 or just some specified ones? 4. Does the issue occur with other Windows Vista client computer and other Windows Server 2003 file server? 5. Are these computers (Windows Server 2003 server, Windows Vista, and Windows XP) in a domain environment? Let's try the steps below to narrow down the problem. 1. Make sure that you provided the Full-Control permissions of both Sharing and Security settings to Everyone for the Windows Server 2003 folders. 2. Confirm that you logged the Windows Vista computer with the Administrator account and turn UAC off temporally. 3. Temporarily disable/uninstall all Anti-Virus programs or firewalls. If you have installed any Anti-Virus programs or firewalls, please temporarily disable/uninstall all the firewalls and Anti-Virus programs, as this may be helpful in resolving this problem. Note: In order to prevent virus attack during this process, please run a complete virus check first. Then you can reinstall the anti-virus software after our troubleshooting steps. 4. Check 3rd party application compatibility. Run Windows Safe Mode ===================== I suggest we restart the computer in Safe Mode to see if the problem also occurs in the mode which loads a minimal protected-mode configuration, disables Windows device drivers and uses the standard VGA display adapter. 1. Detach all unnecessary peripheral devices from your computer, such as printers, scanners and removable storage devices. 2. Restart the computer. 3. Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears. 4. Choose Safe Mode with Networking, and press Enter. 5. Test the issue in Safe Mode to see if the issue still exists. Note: In Safe Mode, your system display and Desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. If the issue does not occur in safe mode, lets try a Clean Boot to test the issue. Start Windows in Clean Boot mode ============================ Note: You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure. 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click Ok. 3. Switch to "Services" tab and then Check "Hide All Microsoft Services". 4. Click Disable All. 5. Switch to the Startup tab and then Click Disable all. 6. Click OK. 7. Click Restart to restart the computer and test the issue. 8. When you see the message, choose "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click OK. Note: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and check back the items. Feel free to let me know the result!

Thank you for looking in to my problem. Please go through the following, it might be helpful to find what the problem is.Initially i dont have this problem, its from past two months.I think the problem is with some update packages because the same is the case with another system as well.I dont think windows server 2003 (which I am trying to access) has the problem because using the same user credentials I am able to access the files from Windows XP.The moment I click on the shared folder this is the error0x80070005 access deniedwhen i diagnose the problem this is the message"Make sure you typed the path correctly and you have permission to access the shared folder. If you are trying to access the shared folder with a username and password that is different from what you used to log on into this computer, ensure that you have entered them correctly."My logon account is different and my system is not in domain.Earlier it was asking for username and password when I try to access shared folder but it is not asking now. When I try to map the network drive with valid user credentals it says the shared resource is already mapped with different username.

Hi, in order to resolve the problem in timely manner, please perform all the steps in the previous post first. If all of the methods could not be helpful, we might do a system restore to test the issue. System Restore =============== Note: If you have some important documents or files which were created after the restore point, please backup those data first. We might restore the system back to the point before the problem occurred. To restore your system to a previous state, we can use the following steps: 1. Before we start, please close all open files and close all open programs. 2. Click "Start"; click "All Programs"; click "Accessories"; click "System Tools"; and click "System Restore". The System Restore user interface should appear. 3. Click "Next". 4. From the restore points available, select an appropriate restore point before problem occurs and click "Next". 5. Click "Next" again. The restore process will run and your system will restart automatically. From a command prompt, type "net use" (without the quotes), and press enter. This will show a list of all current connections. If ANY share on the same server you are trying to connect to is listed, credentials are already in use to connect to that machine, and you will not be able to connect to any share on it with different credentials. You will have to either delete the connection to that server and then try again ("net use /del \\servername\sharename" (no quotes)), or grant the account that was used to make the connection (most likely the one you logged in with) the appropriate security access and share permissions.

Hello - I'm having a similar problem here. My computer is a Vista 32-bit Ultimate, server is SBS 2003. My Vista machine is on a workgroup, while my account on the SBS is on a domain. A few points:I can browse the network shares on a Mac by supplying my domain credentials. I can map the network share using net use (supplying my domain credentials) and also browse the network share via the command prompt (including save, copy, etc)I can NOT browse the network share using the Vista GUIIf I setup the share via net use, in the Vista file explorer I get an "access denied" message when I click on the icon. If I try to access the drive by UNC path in explorer, I get a 0x80070005 access denied error.I find it strange I can browse by command line, but not by the Vista GUI. What could be going on here??
