.NET Framework 4 Client Profile update kills network startup
I installed updates on my windows XPsp3 KVM virtual machine and suddenly the network takes 90 seconds to start functioning at boot time. Experimenting with different updates, I determined that if I uninstall the framework 4 update, the network starts as soon as I boot once again. I even uninstalled the NIC in the device manager and rebooted, and it takes 90 seconds for the add new hardware wizard to come up to reinstall the network driver, so this really doesn't appear to have anything to do with the network itself, but is something the .NET update did to my system. Anyone know what the heck is causing this? Any less drastic solution than uninstalling the whole update?1 person needs an answerI do too

New clue: While working with the machine, I noticed that the desktop properties dialog no longer shows the current selected background image in the little picture of a computer monitor in the desktop tab. Instead, the small thumbnail monitor is always solid microsoft blue. Again, remove the framework 4 update, and the thumbnail images appear in the monitor so you can preview your desktop background selection. I have completely uninstalled this update to get back to normal, but I'm still curious what the heck is going on.
