.MSU installed, stops further installation of .msu file
Since rolling Windows 7 to our users, we've had a few problems that we've recently tried to fix. Firstly we had an issue where .TMP files were being created on Network shares, and files were dissapearing. We managed to find the fix KB 2434932 which resolved this issue. It came in the form of an MSU that had to be directly downloaded. Since then, trying to work through our other problems, we tried to apply KB981872 to resolve some issues with things being cached locally even though we had no network issues across the board. This again comes in the form of an MSU. The problem we've found, is that having applied KB2434932, we can't apply the second patch, it comes back with the message that the update is not applicable. However if you remove KB2434932, then install KB981872, then reinstall KB2434932, it works. I have rolled KB2434932 to 2000 users, and would like to avoid trying to roll this back to apply the other patch first, then re-roll the patch back. (I'm about to test the ability to apply other MSUs after KB2434932 incase it's blocking everything after it..) We can't go to Service Pack 1 without alot more testing (probably 3 months, don't ask why...) so in the meantime, we'd like the ability to be able to patch as and where neccesary. I'm guessing it's something to do with the detection logic within the MSU, a file version or date change of something it's going to change. Any ideas? Anyone faced anything similar? P.S. I'm going to try and apply SP 1 to a machine with both patches on too, to make sure it doesn't block that.

Ok I've answered it myself by looking at the patch notes! :-) Both update Rdbss.sys. So hopefully, by installing KB2434932 I'll also have fixed KB981872...
