(Solved) Restart boots to Black screen, but Shutdown works?
I've been a PC tech for many years now and have never run into this issue.. Clients Notebook - Samsung 700Z i7 2.2, 8GB DDR3, Windows 7 x64. When the notebook is "shutdown" it powers off fine, then boots up fine when I press the power button. But when I attempt to "restart" the computer, it restarts and boots to a black screen (completely skipping pre-post bios). Ive attempted the following: system file check, chkdsk, numerous mal/spy/vir scans, restored backup registry, repaired system files, re-registered system files, attempted Master Boot Repair, and Fixboot, tested HDD and Memory (all passed OK), finally did a system restore, and Nothing.. Customer VERY expensive software and no longer has disks to reinstall, so reformat is out of the questions.. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

1. Set logging boot processes in F8 menu. 2. Check any setting in BIOS that may interfere with sleeping mode. Regards Milos

Most likely if the problem has started recently it was caused by a Windows update of some kind. Check if there are any driver updates available for the Notebook, especially chipset drivers. Also, see if there is a BIOS update while you're at it.

Thanks for the replies guys but I figured out the issue. What made it hard was that he had never restarted the computer before (only shut it down). So I had no idea when it actually started happening. But his notebook, the Samsung 700Z (which is an awful similar hardware build to a MAC book) has a built in custom interface. So while looking in there, under the Advanced section there was some stuff about boot-up. Sure enough there was all kinds of Accelerators that were turned on, So I disabled those and its been restarting fine! Thanks again for the input :)
