'XXXXXX' failed to start worker process: Server Execution failed (0x80080005)

Check your Hyper-V application specific event logs for the additional detail.

There is more to your error than what is mentioned.

Also, if you are using any AV engine, be sure that your exceptions are set properly and your AV engine is not blocking your VMs from starting.

This is not a permissions issue - because then you would have received a permissions error.

Hi,

I am facing the issue when I am trying to start Hyper-V machine, I used this VM earlier so many times in the same laptop withWindows 8.1 OS.

Error : "XXXXX failed to start worker process server execution failed 0x80080005"

Any solution for this.

I deleted the saved status and tried to start, but no use.

I tried the above steps mentioned in one of the threads (Opened MMC, add Component Services snap-in:

Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer -> DCOM Config -> Windows Management Instrumentation -> Right Click, Properties -> Security Launch and Activation Permission -> Edit -> gave Authenticated Users  Full Control), but no use.

Could anyone please help me on this.

Hi Brian,

Please find the below log found and AV is in laptop but it is not blocking Hyper-V.

The Virtual Machine Worker Process has lost its connection to the root\virtualization WMI namespace: General access denied error (0x80070005). As a result, some WMI operations may not function correctly. To correct the problem, try restarting the Windows Management Instrumentation service.

Hi,

Have you tried restarting the Windows Management Instrumentation service?

Please check if the Hypervisorlunchtype is set to "auto" ( executing command "bcdedit.exe" )

You would probably want to run Procmon and check where you are getting access denied before you rebuild.

Hi Yan,

I restarted the WMI service at that time only, but no luck.

I executed the command bcdedit.exe and found that Hypervisorlunchtype is set to "auto". Is there any issue if this values is set to 'Auto' ?. Do I need to change to some other value ?

I run the ProcMon tool, but how to find where can I get access denied ? I do not know how to use this tool. Could you please let me know to how to find it.

I found more log related to this issue. Please find the below error log for your reference.

Hi,

Please run compmgmt.msc, and expand WMI control, to check whether Hyper-v administrators have permissions on root\virtualization.

Yan Li

Hi Yan,

1.  compmgmt.msc >> Right-clicked Services and Application/WMI Controls to select Properties >>  Security Tab, and navigated to  the Root/Virtualization. Clicked the Security button. There is no "Hyper-V Administrator" user in the list under the above mentioned path.

I tried to add with that account, it was not there in the user list. If this is case, how to add it and give the admin access to it ?

2. I executed the command bcdedit.exe and found that Hypervisorlunchtype is set to "auto". Is there any issue if this values is set to 'Auto' ?. Do I need to change to some other value ?

Personally, I suspect an antivirus issue.  Due to the exclusion rules not being set properly.

Or the antivirus product has an adaptive firewall within it and it is blocking that management traffic.

The other option is to perform a repair of the system (the OS that runs Hyper-V).

Also, it could be a recent update / patch, or even a patch that was installed and the machine is pending reboot.
