'Run as' screen
Every time I go to open a program up pops the 'run as' screen with a tick against 'protect my data against unauthorised data entry'. I then have to the enter my name and password in order to activate the program even though I have already entered my user password when I first signed on. How do I unset this tick to avoid the 'runas' screen always appearing?1 person needs an answerI do too

Yes Gerald , I am using XP along with AVG v9 (all features)Okay, I asked because this type pop up seems highly irregular. The part.... ""'protect my data against unauthorised data entry'"" is generally a setting in Windows to activate the DEP protection which is on by default in Windows XP and is never a pop up in starting any program...SEE... A detailed description of the Data Execution Prevention (DEP ...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352 This built in protection is the "last man standing" if and when antivirus protection should miss as in a new 'in the wild threat' etc.For this to be a check box on any software continually is highly irregular - especially with 'save my settings' apparently not working. In other words, if a software had this feature, it should only need to be checked once and will remain as such until the User would wish to change the setting again.AVG had a pretty good reputation, but there are a handful of products that are superior in detections. You did not mention what program this is ocuuring with and I would consider in the least to try some free scans by superior products and see if malware infection is producing a false pop up attempting to steal passwords....MalAware 1.0! http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/malaware/ MalAware does not require software installation and can be started immediately for a quick first control of possibly infected PCs.BitDefender Free Edition is an on-demand virus scanner, which is best used in a system recovery or forensics role. If you are on an "always-on" Internet connection, we strongly advise you to consider using a more complex antivirus solution.http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en--BitDefender-Free-Edition.html Gerald60606 Windows Live Spaces http://gerald60606.spaces.live.com/default.aspx

Thanks for the advice about Emisisoft whiich I installed and ran. Just a few minor instances of malware were shown (mostly cookies) after doing the deep scan and I removed them. The problem arises when I start ANY program and occurs 3 separate times on start-up.It is simple to override- the easiest way is if there is a short-cut icon-then I can right-click and hit 'start' to override. The problem seems analagous to a fuse tripping in an electricity circuit. I am sure that there must have been a virus/malware event that caused the computer to defend itself but it happened 3 months ago and I am pretty sure the danger has passed. I just cannot find the fusebox where the fuse has tripped! It could be that the next Service Pack might clear the problem- I already have SP3

What has been revealed is with the run dll which may be the continuing pop up permission problem is that there are some 40 plus softwares with a vernability found with this. this may or may not apply here - but is certainly in the same ballbark with a "run as " dll.... This is just hitting the news....
