'Pathway too long' notice when trying to recover files from external hardrive.
When I backup my work files from my documents to Seagate FreeAgent (External Hardrive) and then send the documents back to a folder on my desktop from the hardrive to make sure everything was copied, it says the pathway is too long . I understand that this is because my file names are too long. I understand Microsoft will only allow a certain number of characters on a file name and this limit includes files within files. Is there a download form microsoft that will correct the problem so i dont have to rename all my files and can have longer - more descriptive file names ?1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi Spud1971,The maximum path length is 260 characters. There isn’t any download from Microsoft to increase the path length limitation.Have a look at the following article link: Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces - Maximum Path Length LimitationThanks and Regards,Santosh Y – Microsoft SupportVisit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
