In earlier versions of Windows it was possible to display the name of each driver when booting by enabling the "OS Boot Information" option (also known as the /sos switch on versions of Windows which used boot.ini).

On Windows 8, this option still exists, but enabling it does not have any effect: the booting still displays the Windows 8 logo and spinning circle, even with this option enabled.  Is there any way to work around this?

You can try to use EasyBCD to edit the boot menu.

change the bootmangaer to the old one:

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Now try to add the SOS flag.

no luck. legacy policy would not work. i do not see any driver information on the screen while booting up. any other tips? all i see is a spinning wheel - no mention of any drivers anywhere.

Wild guess, try both, add "BootMenuPolicy MenuPolicyLegacy" to {default}, and add "sos yes" to {current} or to a modified copy of {current}.  While at it you could also add "bootlog yes": credits.
