wired authentication fails. Dot3svc not running.
I have set up authentication using PEAP on my windows server 2008r2 network. Wireless and vpn clients (all Vista or win7) authenticate properly. Wired clients on LAN do not. Wired policy has been configured by Dot3svc does not show on services list on any of the domain controllers or the clients. Question: How do I start the dot3svc? I tried "net start dot3svc" but received an "access denied" message. Thank you.

Neither the dot3svc or wired autoconfig services are running. How do I go about starting them? I was under the apparent (mis)impression that configuring a wired authentication policy under the security settings in group policy started them up automatically.

I should also add that it (dot3svc and wired autoconfig) is not running on any of the servers or the workstations. Wireless (wlan) is running.

Hi, You can configure Group Policy to start all Wired AutoConfig service: Create a GPO for your server and clients, navigate to: [Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services] Double-click wired AutoConfig, check Define this policy setting, select Automatic, click OK. Thank you for your response. Wired autoconfig does not show up on my list of services. Neither does dot3svc. Is there a registry key that I need to activate/change to make these services active? I have not been able to find one.

Hi, Wired autoconfig service is dot3svc service, they are the same one. Cannot find Wired autoconfig service on DC or on clients? Try to run "sfc /scannow" to check system files. I ran sfc/scannow....................no problems found. I am not sure that Wired-AutoConfig shows up in services in Windows Server 2008R2. By going to event viewer......applications and services logs...............microsoft................windows................wired autoconfig. Operational shows up under this entry. Clicking it leads to the log files that tells you the service is running and provides additional information on actions. From this log, it appears this service is working correctly on both my servers and clients and I need to look elsewhere for the problem. Thanks for your interest and help.
