is it a memeber server ? Do you have Certification Authority installed by any chance ? Once the Certificate Services are installed, you won't be able to join a domain or remove the machine from its current domain. This is by design, you can uninstall it and reinstall it after you join the server to domain.http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hi, Agree with the above suggestions that make sure the server does not have Certification Authority installed and you are logged in with the administrators credentials. Then, also check the following services: 1. Go to Start > Run and type services.msc in the command window. 2. Make sure the Workstation service is started and Automatic. 3. Check if Computer Browser service exists. If the problem continues, please help to confirm the following information: 1. Was this computer in a domain before upgrade? 2. What’s the current status of this computer? Still in a domain or not? Regards, Bruce Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. I have the same issue after upgrading to 2008 R2 Enterprise via DISM. The account is an ADMIN, the workstation service IS started and automatic, computer browser does exist (disabled), the device was NOT a member of the domain before the upgrade and is currently not a domain member. Please advise.
